Music

Music at Woodvale Primary Academy

“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.”

(The National Curriculum)

At Woodvale, we believe that providing a high-quality music curriculum enables children to develop a love of music whilst increasing their self-confidence, self-expression and creativity. Through our scheme our children have the opportunity to listen to, appraise, evaluate, perform and review music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions.

Our objective at Woodvale is to develop children’s curiosity for music, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music. We value the role of music within our children’s learning believing it to be a powerful and unique form of communication that can positively influence the way children feel, think and act. We believe that learning music helps the body and mind work together.  Exposing children to music during early development helps them to learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop their music potential and we aim to nurture and encourage musical development across the school.

Instrumental Lessons

In addition, we offer specialist one-to-one and group instrumental tuition in guitar, piano and brass. We have a highly experienced and dedicated team of peripatetic teachers from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT) who work with leading music colleges and orchestras from across the county. Our instrumental lessons take place during the school day and support children achieving recognised qualifications in their chosen instrument.

If you would like your child to be added to the waiting list for instrumental lessons, please contact the School Office by telephone, email, or pop in to our office.
